A City of many tales, and many people a sprawling metropolis that has more going for it than most. Namely Bruce Wayne, the Cities Golden Prince, a man who has given jobs to the masses and helped the city through its worst darkness. At night the city is protected by a number of Vigilante's and haunted by many trouble makers, but even at this point, there is something to be said for the darkness that dwells within the heart of mankind.
The Legion, a small group of immensely trained police officers, have been taking things a bit to far. Exacting justice in there own manner, having seemed to forget the golden rule of when fighting monsters be careful not to become a monster. This group numbers in the many, and has connections to the shadowy figure that has hired them, sitting back and enjoying the chaos in the city.
No one is safe, not villain and not hero, anyone who has been on the scene who has haunted a Gotham Night, is a target. Attacks, Kidnapping, Attempted Murder, all these things seem second nature to a man the news has labeled the Unseen Hunter, someone who might be thought a serial killer if they could ever truly link him to anything, but a shadow without a face is the hardest to identify and even harder to catch.

The sun set quickly, as the moon wanted to take is turn in the sky. Stars already began to glow in the sky. A soft gentle mist fell lightly. Aside from the rain the nite was cool and still. Very little stirred in the cool nite.

One did stir in the shadows however, a young girl no older than five. She should have been sleeping or getting ready for bed. But she couldn't sleep, she was a nite creature, always had been.

It had been two years since she'd been taken, ripped away from her mother's side. The young girl was still traumatized by it, controlled by that fear. She stayed now with a woman. Large 'big boned' as they say, perhaps what was part of the why the young girl couldn't sleep. Or maybe it was something else, that even she didn't know about. Truth was 'Yes', the the latter as well. Nite-terrors made it hard if not totally impossible for her to sleep. They woke her screaming in fear, shaking to much to even consider sleep again. It was those long nites that she was thankful for her plush tiger, Rutilus. The young girl clung to him like he was her lifeline as if he was the only thing keeping her from going off the deep end.

The nite was something else too, in a few hours she'd be five. Another birthday and another year old. To her they were still fun and exciting. She looked forward most to the day when she could leave this place. The woman she stayed with was scatter-brained. Rocks had more intelligence, it would have been insulting to say she had the brains of a box of rocks. Or to call her a bird brain, because birds were smart. So the woman was simply scatter-brained. But even then it was an insult to any who had brains.

Someday, Kit wanted to be on her own, or with a family. She knew someone already she wanted to be around. Her friend Linn, she was fifteen. Ten years older than Kit. They'd meet one day almost a year ago. It had been raining. Kit was suppose to be in school learning "ABC's and 123's" But it was boring, she was smart than that. She could read! She'd sneaked during recess and climbed a fence easily enough and had been walking along the perimeter running a stick along the chain links. The teachers were scatter-brained, they hadn't noticed the escaped girl. Nor did any of the other kids, Kit wasn't know for being the most social. Some kids didn't like her. She was "Different", they didn't understand that. An the times that Kit had bit a few of them didn't help. With a mischievous smile she threw the stick across the street. It landed in the middle, then with that Kit took of at a run, in effort to flee from the walls of the "ABC's and 123's" There had to be more to this to all of it! Linn had stopped her and asked, 'Shouldn't you be in school?' Kit didn't know what to answer. Apparently Linn knew she should be though, she walked the girl back to where she was suppose to be. Keeping her under her brightly colored umbrella, Kit walked along happily enough her hands stuffed deeply into her pockets holding her plush tightly. The pair talked as they walked, they bonded then. Kit adored the teen, trusting her quickly. Something Kit rarely did.

Young Kit sighed bored, as she watched the sky with very little interest. Perhaps when the sun set fully she would be more into it. But at the moment even the bright colors, the hues of orange pink and red didn't keep her attention. She was leaning on the window sill a piece of paper resting there and a box of crayons rest on her bed. She colored and drew absently, not really looking at her hand as she did. Her plush, was nestled in the crook of her arm, her chin rest in the fur on the top of his head. She glanced to the paper she was drawing on. It wasn't much yet, but she stared as if she saw more to it. Putting the black back in the box she pulled out the "Macaroni an Cheese" orange and went over the black outline she'd done turning the rough messy sketch slowly into a tiger. "It looks like you Ruti." She told her plush rubbing her chin in his fur a moment then went back to her drawing. Pressing down darker she made it look fuzzy frizzing out the lines, then colored lightly in keeping with the appearance of fur. As best a girl her age could.. She could draw but she wasn't a child protege'.

She was only away right now, because her nite terrors the had her to scared an to shaken to sleep. With a heavy sigh the young leaned on the window sill letting the crayon rest gently in her hand as she rest her head in her hands hugging her arms. Rutilus was nestled, and hugged tightly to her. Staring out at the sky she watched the sun setting felt the cool breeze of the coming nite on her skin from the open window.

"I'm bored Ruti.." She sighed to her plush friend. She paused then nodded, "I wish she was here too." She spoke of her friend, Linn. "I wish she'd just get me out of here too. This woman is anal." She said using a word she'd hear someone say at school about the kids. It likely wasn't very nice. But it made the five year old giggle. The days were boring enough, sleeping when she wasn't in class but nite-time. The time when she was most active and hyper, that was just to much for her.

Finally the sun had set enough in the sky that the stars sparkled in the blackness of the sky. The young girl smiled her eyes lighting up much like the expanse of space she stared at. The twinkled of the stars and the glow of the moon, both intranced her. She stared almost unblinking at the lights before her. Her eyes grew wide with awe as a star zipped though the sky. "Ruti did you see that?" She asked not taking eyes of the shooting star. Her baby blue eyes followed it until it fell out of sight below the horizon. "Wow.." She breathed. "I wanna be out there like that someday Ruti. Out there, where I can see the sky all of it." Kit said with a light sigh again. Her eyes scanning the sky as it grew darker still before her eyes. "The big dipper." She pointed it out, "An the lil dipper." She smiled pointing to it as well. "Rutilus look! that looks like you!" She said looking to the stars that formed the shape of a big cat. She didn't know that one. "I wonder if Linn knows what that is called." She asked glancing to her plush. "I wish she was here, then I wouldn't be bored. I'd get to eat something besides the boiled crud here and Linn and I could be on the roof tops or something." She smiled at the thought. Things were always more fun when Linn was around.

Slowly her eyes drifted shut as she rest her head deeper into her arms. "Rutilus.. wake me up if Linn comes okay?" She asked of her plush the purred lightly kissing the top of his furry head. Then let her eyes drift closed altogether. She wasn't really tired it was just that, she hadn't slept well and the psycho visions and images in her head weren't there at the moment. And Linn was sure to say something of her not sleeping or looking tired. Kit wouldn't sleep though, no, she'd just let her eyes close and rest them. Let her mind wonder to happy things and hope the bad scary stuff didn't invade and over take the good she wanted to cling to so badly.

The day had been an utter terror for the small teen she had spent the day wrapped up like she was going to Antartica so she could get to her doctor appointment. It was April though and the rain kept the sun at Bay. So she had been dropped off where she worked at the local University. She was taking night classes there too. She stayed on as a tutor for Science since she knew what she was doing. She would likely graduate with high honors, if not the highest. It gave her extra money because her parents were always saying they didn't have enough for this or that. Linda felt guilty, she felt like she was burden, there was medicines she had to take that were expensive, ones that gave her some protection from sickness. Mr and Mrs.Friitawa did not give her an allowance, it wasn't as though the young woman could go to the mall with the friends she didn't have. She was reclusive, she kept to her books, to her work, and for the better part of a year now the little girl, she'd met outside, when she'd been on her way home from work. She was surprised as bundled up as she was, that Kit hadn't run the other way when she saw her. She had been standing outside of a baby day care. At least someone had cared enough to put her in. However the tiny girl had seemed to have other idea's. She'd wound up siting with her in the school yard, until the girl's mother came to get her. They lived in the Narrows, so there was no real heavy questions, usually you did what you were suppose to, or you got shot. You never knew who was the illigitimate daughter of who these days.

Linda had baked that morning while she'd been kept in, hiding from the sun. Mr.Friitawa off to his cozy office in Downtown Gotham. Mrs.Friitawa off to a social meeting with her group of Doctor friends. Her mother had turned eyes on her as she was getting ready for her little party. "You should marry a doctor, Linda at least life isn't boring when he's away." she had told her, than paused as though she had recalled who she was talking too. "Of course don't get your hopes up either." her mother's hand on her arm was not even felt, because Linn was numb to the tiny barbs her mother had shot her way. She had heard it so often it was a common thing for her. Mrs.Friitawa was out of the door before Linn could even say good-bye, and be careful. Now she was busy grabbing the tuperware that held the large cake for the little girl. It was a carrot cake done in kitty style. It was Ruti's colors. orange colored cream cheese, and white chocolate stripes. This was what she knew was well liked. Not that Kit wouldn't eat anything that she was brought. The girl was an expert at five at snatching hotdogs. Five fingered discounts, were not to be over looked. Linda tried, she tried to hold herself to a higher standard. Anything you do will reflect on us her mother had told her often. Than she was off to what ever meeting, or party, they didn't bother to invite Linn to because she might burn under all the lights.

She didn't take it to heart in her early teens, there was no need to do so. It did prove to her that she was flawed. That she wasn't what people thought her to be, because of the way she looked. Also, because she was so pale. She'd been called a snowman and worse. This was how children were, they saw flaws and they made fun of them to hide there own flaws. Linn did not dwell on it, she was fortunate enough to have a friend or two. That was enough. That they allowed her to tutor people obviously older than her spoke volumes of how smart she was. It was a tide sum of money too. So she squirreled it away, told her mother she was babysitting. Not because she was ashamed of her job, but because she was ashamed of her mother. Her mother might show up and make a scene of the work she was doing, and that would be worse than the fingers pointing. She was fifteen certainly, but another year would see her out on her own anyways. If her mother knew she was in the Narrows, well she'd flip her wig. She'd have alot to say to Linn and none of it would be in english. You must understand, not because she cared about her daughters well being deep down. She cared about how she was precived, and how many doctor bills, the Friitawa's would have to foot to keep her in good health.

For her birthday, Linda had put together a six cheese lasanga, a side salad that had bacon in it of course cheese and she'd picked up the expensive type of salad dressing, in the pretty bottle that Kit could keep. She made cheese bread to go with it, and of course they had cake for dessert, and Linn had thermos full of pumpkin spiced coffee. Kit was young for it, but the times she took her out with her to Starbucks, they took her's anyways. No one could tell weither Kit and Linn were sisters, or mother and daughter. Linn had developed quickly and even at fifteen was curvy. A gift her grandmother Babette told her, because it means that you will be taken seriously. Linn had wished that were true. It brought the wrong focus to her, and the wrong men. At fifteen she wasn't sure there was such thing as a right man. They were all so, either immature or only interested in physical aspects. She couldn't find a person to match her intellectually, that wasn't at least three times her age.So when she took Kit out, it was just the two of them, never anyone to tag along. Linn thought she could use a daddy figure in her life, but she refused to give the girl the wrong impression about men. If she learned anything from Linn, from that young of an age it would be to never trust men. Everything was packed up in the large wicker basket that Linn kept for picnics, she could only have under moonlight.

Linn had a bike, an old beach cruiser painted in a off orange color and it had a basket on the front and one on the back. Her dad, he told her to call him dad. Had put a light on it so she could go out. Don't forget the curfew he was always warning her. Linn could only go out after dark anways. So she stuffed things into her bag, the panda bag she carried everything in. Her own medication for the blinding headache's she sometimes got, they were still with her two years after her burns. Her eye site had only come back tentively, and Linda's eyes now were so light sensitive she wore sunglasses at night time. She had never needed glasses before the incident with the sun. Now they were a constant reminder of the cruelty of others. Her hand rested on the bike handles, and once she got her balance with the things she had, she was off. Velvet peeking from the purse in the front basket. There was a couple of brightly colored boxes, in her basket as well. Wrapped up for a birthday. Large colorful ribbons ; green, orange and white were around the packages. She'd gone all out. Not because Kit was spoiled, but because she lived with a woman who took care of her like she was a pet. Not a little girl, who wanted to be a little girl. Once Linn had met her outside the ABC's -123's school, she'd felt an instant connection to her, because the little girl was all alone even with the woman who cared for her.

She started to show up at her school on rainy days, just to hang out. She was young enough to not be concidered a stalker, and old enough to be trustworthy with the children. She often helped out in there, when she didn't have to tutor. The school teacher was someone who was just glad the kids had another distraction than her. So welcomed the help. She had lied and said she was related to Kit. Being albino she could have been related to anyone. Here they were almost a year later, and Linn was in a hurry to see her, since she'd be the first person to really see her for her birthday. It was going to be late/early pending on who you asked. Linda, stashed her bike in one of the sheds, that was empty, she could put a lock on. Than catching the basket over her arm, and the presents in her arms, her purse dangling off her arm. She took the quick way up. The side of the building. Linn had been bed ridden for some time after her accident she had taken up fencing to get herself back in shape, to tone her muscles. Not that she could be concidered fat by any stretch of the imagination. She crept quietly so not to wake to woman, whom Kit lived with, not that Linn was sure she was even home, or for that matter concious.

"Mon cheri, you should non be awake still at zis hour." her accent was soft but full on french. Kit always seemed to understand, so she didn't try to correct her english after speaking to the girl. Her full lips curved up in a warm smile. "I could not get away soon mah cheri." she said as she set the basket down. "I had to clean zee the kitchen before I left, but I did bring you dinner, and some presents, and ohh, a cake too!" Linn slinked through the window like a cat, into the girls room. Her hair a windblown mess from the ride over the bridge, but she was happy. Her pale cheeks held some color, and she held the large tuperware cake holder out to Kit first. "You will like zis I think." she explained. Shoving the hood of her hoodie back she settled on the floor admist the crayons, and the paper. "Do you like it ?" she asked, as she began to set the small boxs aside. One was jewelry a tiger head on a leather thong. One was a small silver ring set with her birthstone, that was the most expensive of the gifts. There was new jeans in another box, and a black hoody with orange and white striped sleeves, with a tiger prowling on the back. Linn knew the girl's fascination with large tigers. She hoped some day Kit would want to be a vet, or an animal care giver.

The day hadn't been so grand for the five year old either. The scatter-brained old lady she lived with yelled at her, Kit hadn't done anything worthy to be yelled at. She finally gotten to sleep after her nite terrors had kept her up for almost two days straight, when the old woman came in yelling at about something, Kit didn't pay attention. She simply got up and crawled into her closet to get dressed. Because she didn't like the old woman staring at her. The 'anal' scatter-brained woman couldn't get into the closet, Kit had found a way to lock it from the inside. The woman kept yelling until Kit came back out dressed. "I'm going to school." She told the woman as she grabbed Rutilus from under her pillow and ran downstairs. She never used the fire-escape window around the old woman. The woman thought Kit couldn't open them. Woe to her. Kit ran out the door to the street. She paused at the cross walk. Looking left then right and left again, before she darted across the street. She only went to school now because Linn would be there. She was always there. The young girl hadn't ran the first time she saw Linn she thought she was nice. She didn't seem a threat at all. Then anyone was better than the old lady she stayed with. When her mother had pulled up that day to take her home. Kit looked to Linn before she stood and whispered, "She's not my mom.." She didn't know if Linn would believe her or not but it was truth.

School was long and boring, because Linn didn't come. The sun was out, and her friend couldn't be. Kit wished it would rain everyday so her friend could always be there. There would have been only one down fall. The 'wet' part. But that would have been worth it to see Linn. The five year old was looking forward anxiously for the nite fall. In school they talked about the letters again. Kit knew them by heart, she could say them backwards and forwards. She could count to one hundred. She'd taught herself. Kit had faked sick a few sunny days, because Linn wouldn't come. But Linn told her she should go, that it was good for her. That there weren't enough rainy days in Gotham for her to skip out on class so much. So Kit promised her friend she'd go. But she didn't promise to like it! Nor did she promise not to sneak out either. She left school at recess on the long sunny days and would wander to the hotdog stands. and get 'five finger discount'. The key to getting the discount was being cute, smart and fast. Something Kit had down pat, she was fast and smart. So she had little care of getting caught, it kept her fed.

Kit was called names too, ones that she had enough sense not to repeat. One of the most common for her was 'freak'. Her kitty ears and the fangs. The other kids didn't understand or even try to. They made assumptions and stuck to them. Kit tried not to listen to them. To block out the words they said. It wasn't so hard. She'd learned to block out the old woman she lived with. But Kit learned nothing else from the woman, all she learned was from Linn. She was picking up French from her. It kept her out of trouble and gave her something to amuse herself with when she wasn't feeling well. She had a low immune system so when she got sick she stayed that way for a while.

The five year old, was use to not being remembered for her birthday, ever sense she was stripped from her mom's side. Not once in two years had she had a decent birthday. In a few hours she would be another year old. She didn't think Linn would forget her birthday. But really all Kit wanted was her friend a few hours without the old woman was present enough for her. She wished the nite would come quicker so she wouldn't have to be alone any longer. The old woman wasn't in. She was out doing whatever it was she did. Kit didn't care in the least. She welcomed the quiet.

Bored she added more detail to her little drawing. "Ruti do you want wings?" She asked looking at him. She smiled as if she somehow got an answer. Fishing out the 'Asparagus' green she drew wings as best she could manage. Then the eyes, his eyes were made a 'Sky' blue. "Look Ruti!" She smiled looking at her picture pleased. She loved when Linn took her to Starbucks with her, she would have followed Linn anywhere. She liked when people asked if they were related. Kit would smile lightly and move closer to Linn, she was shy sometimes, or could be. Kit remembered very well the day she and Linn met. Every detail vividly, she loved the teen. Linn was wonderful, young Kit had an instant connect too. Something that didn't happen often with her. But it did and she now loved her greatly.

Kit began to look forward to rainy days. She knew on those darker days that Linn would come to the school. The five year old kept near Linn like a shadow. She didn't like when others got to close to her, but had to share sometimes. Even if she didn't like the idea of such. The five year old looked back to her picture again. But didn't have much interest left in it at the moment. She sighed looking up at the sky again. The woman Kit stayed with wasn't worth much. She wasn't the nicest person, Kit hated didn't like her at all. Linn didn't have to be quiet, the old woman wasn't conscious enough to notice if Kit had smashed something. The old woman took a lot of medications, they knocked her out at nite. At least she could sleep, lucky old woman. Kit wished she could sleep.

Slowly silent, Kit had drifted lightly, the rumble of the motor had stirred her, she blinked looking out the window again then she saw her then heard her. Kit smiled an sat up. "Linn!" She said happily putting the crayon on the floor among the others and pushed the paper aside. She smiled brightly the slight point of her fangs showed. "It's okay." Kit told her, sniffing at the basket as Linn put it down. "You remembered." Kit beamed happily. Linn looked pretty even with her hair a bet of a mess, watched her slink through the window. Kit took the Tupperware dish was handed and put it down beside her and leaped up wrapping her arms tightly around Linn's neck. "I don't even care what you brought. I'm just glad you remembered. I'm glad you cared." Kit whispered in Linn's ear nuzzling her lightly in a very affectionate manner. Only after she'd hugged Linn tightly did she turn herself, to reach the Tupperware dish, but stayed close to Linn. She carefully took the lid of the dish, her eyes lit up when she saw it. "Aww.. I love it!" She purred hugging Linn again with one arm, as she ran one finger along the icing on the side. Getting some on her finger she licked it off. It was good, sweet and tangy. "You're such a good cook." Kit smiled at her as she snuggled closer to Linn. Kit did love tigers and all cats, but the big stripped felines were her favorite. She would likely do something that allowed her to work with animals in some way or another.

Linda had always believed the little girl when she said that the woman wasn't her mother but she was only fifteen herself, there wasn't alot she could do. She could hang around and be a mommy or play to be a mommy, but she really wasn't. It always seemed that the law failed Linda. From an early age, it had. A smack on the wrist to those people who had almost killed her, a refusal to concider allowing Kit to come stay with her. Later in life, if would be against her again too. Still, she tried, tried to do right. A person grew tired of trying to do the right thing when nothing but being beaten down would follow. She took to just hanging around, sneaking out in the middle of the night, to see her. They were both noctural, Linda perfered sleeping through the day anyways, and not being torrmented by the sun in that manner. It kept her from doing so many things, she envied people who could play outside, who had color, she had been scorned in school because she did'nt hve to go out to do physical education, she'd been teased because she was a book worm, because she was smart. Than people became uncomfortable with her when she came back to school, she had been blind at first, she read brail now because of it. They had either felt guilt, or disgust, because the stayed out of her way. Oh there was the occassional person, who tripped her, or attempted to, they found she had better balance, and better control of that cane than they thought she did.

Now life seemed to be looking up for her, she had a fairly good paying job. She could slip out and see Kit, and soon enough she'd be able to afford her own apartment. She could get her grandmother to sign for her. So she could move into the place. She had hopes for things to get better. For herself and for Kit, because the old woman who was tending to her was not in any condition to be careing for her. Linda, could at least give her more time, and more care. She wouldn't be eatting raw macaroni, or stealing hotdogs to have to be fed, that she did to feed herself was one thing. Linn's aim was to make sure she didn't have to do that. She always felt better worrying about someone else and not having to face her own problems, which were numerous at her age. Far to numerous for her own good. Still Linn hid those from the world, and she focused on the up and up. If you didn't laugh you'd soon be crying, was the old saying. Of course, Kit gave something in return that Linn didn't have, acceptance. She didn't care that Linn looked like a little lab mouse, or that she might squeek if poked while working. That she wasn't colorful like others. She only wanted Linn for who she was, which touched her.

It was also what would result into her having Linn in her corner for the rest of her days. Since she was more than happy to take the time off to go into school, and talk to the principal or her teachers in the years to come. Yet at fifteen she was still very much a girl as well. She never did the things girls her age did, she didn't crush on boys, she didn't feel like she needed to shop all the time, didn't need to rebel against her parents. Sure she was out at Ungodly hours, but she was burned by the light of the day so it was to be expeected. The slender woman, knew precisely how to get up into the building without making to much noise. Even if it would be a good five years before she found her way into Selina's care. Her and Kit both, since they were desperately trying to make there way in the world, without having to resort to other means, that neither were cut out for. Linn could like have gotten a job working in a resturant as a cook, if she didn't have a driving passion for working in the lab. She enjoyed creating things, she liked to work with her hands, and her brain. That was the only problem with a job in that line of work. Doctoring was far more appealng to the albino, it was giving back in some small way.

Rainy days gave Linda a sort of freedom, that it terrified her to take, if she miss caculated and the sun came out she would be stuck where ever she was. She loved getting out though, so it was something she risked often, well off and on. It was also known if Linn caught her stealing, she'd go behind her pay the hotdog vendor, if the man seemed understanding. The little girl was living almost in poverty in the Narrows, her clothes were ill fitting, and her shoes were bad. Linn had begun taking care of that first, she realized she couldn't give the woman money to do it, because she just spent it on herself. Linn wanted the little girl to have something, Birthdays, Christmas's and Thanksgivings. She'd even brought her home with her to the large apartment she lived in with her Parents when they weren't there. Her Parents often spent holidays out of Gotham, oh your skin condition you can't go. We transfered funds into your account. It was in many ways just telling her here live ever how you want, just leave us alone. They were bribing Linda to not be around them. She had been wounded by that and damaged from it. So it had already run its mental course with the small woman, so she did what she could so Kit didn't go through that, since at that age, she'd always wanted a family, but doubted any man would want her.

"Of course I remembered Kitling." she said as she dropped into the room and held her arms out for hugs. At Kits age shows of affection were important. She feared the little girl had gained her distrust of men. "Your birthday only comes once a year, and your not going to be five ever again." she said as she nuzzled her nose into the little girls hair. She swung her around when she nuzzled her and craddled her close to her. "Yes, well you'll like what I brought, I brought food and cake too. I worked all night on it, so I hope you like it ." she said in her softly accented voice. She settled the little girl down, and brought out the colorful birthday plates she'd gotten, there were cartoon plates, she took a panda and gave Kit a tiger. She laughed when she ran her finger along the cream cheese, and squinted at her playfully. "Hey now, miss...eat dinner first, than you can have you kitty cake." she giggled. "And careful to not knock the tail off." she said as she pushed her hair back behind her ears.

"I made enough so the rest can go in your fridge and you can have it later." she said as she brushed a hand through Kit's fly away hair. Than settled herself down onto the floor. "Tomarrow, its suppose to be continued rainy, so I can take you to the movies, maybe we can go see something fun. " she said in offering. Anyone who saw them out together, since Linda hated for her to be left alone, would find, Linn holding her hand while she did shopping she needed to do. Linda, never put her in a shopping basket, because of what she'd gathered happened. She always kept her hand in the little girls, they could drag a basket along.

Adults didn't always believe kids. They thought that kids were just that 'kids'. Kit wasn't lieing though, the old woman wasn't any relation to her. The young girl just ended up with her, as crule as that sounded. Kit was kept like a 'pet'. She would have given anything to be Linn's daughter or her little sister. She didn't care, she just wanted away from the 'scatter-brain' woman. The five year old didn't know her friend's past she knew it wasn't polite to ask. Kit didn't care what Linn looked like, or what she could or couldn't do. Linn was her best friend and that was all that mattered to the young girl. Had she known what horrible things the teen's past in-tailed Kit would have tracked them down and done to them as had been to Linn, maybe bit them too. Biting always got attention. Good or bad.. was another thing to be considered. Kit wasn't popular herself, she didn't get a lot attention at school or at home. She was left to take care of herself more often than not. So she learned to amuse herself anyway she could. Which consisted of reading mostly or drawing. As a result she was quite good at both.

Kit's life really wasn't that bad, she was only five, well close enough, her life was simple. But still it had it's trials and downfalls. She hated the old woman she stayed with and hated not being around Linn. She longed whole-heartedly for the day that Linn could take her away from the old woman. Where she could be a kid and not a 'pet'. An get fed proper. She'd let slip once to Linn about eating raw macaroni and hadn't lived it down yet. It wasn't Kit's fault though, the old woman was gone, an Kit couldn't use the stove. Not only did she know better, but beyond that the gas wasn't on. So she couldn't cook if she'd wanted too. She got bored with peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches. Eating it raw hadn't been her best idea, or her worst really. But it was from then on, that she began to prefect her art. "Hot Dog Stealing". They were the perfect meal for a young girl such as herself. Bread, meat extra mustard and ketchup, sour-kraut when she could snag it as well, and pickle relish. For Kit her life wasn't easy, but she had it good even with the old woman. She had Linn, she accepted her and adored her as much as she hoped the teen did her. Kit didn't care, honestly, what Linn looked like. She saw her for what was on the inside. She didn't think Linn looked like a lab mouse. And she wouldn't have cared if Linn did squeak if poked. Though Kit might have giggled at such, she to was pale, not like her friend by any means, but she wasn't tanned either. But none of that mattered at all to Kit, she was happy with Linn for who Linn was, for all of her. No matter what 'the world' saw as 'wrong' with her Kit saw only her friend, sister and mother all in one.

She was happiest with Linn around, and would have honestly followed her anywhere. At five she wasn't a huge help in a fight, so would be little help to Linn if she was every in real danger right now. But she'd sure as heck set someone to screaming if they ever hurt Linn. A pair of sharp feline-like fangs would sink into their flesh. She welcomed every moment she spent with Linn. Even at a young age, Kit understood and trusted Linn with every part of her. And in years to come that bond would surly grow. The age difference between them was nothing to Kit. She didn't care. She was glad too that Linn didn't crush on boys, because Kit didn't think she'd want to share. Linn too was an example to Kit, one that the young girl seemed to begin to follow more and more. Idolizing Linn. In her silent slowly drifting sleep Kit didn't hear Linn as she came closer. Even her kitty-ears, and the move acute hearing that came with them, didn't bring the soft sounds of her friend to her ears. She snuggled down tighter into her own arms pulling Rutilus close to her.

Never again, would Kit hum the nursery rhyme 'Rain rain go away..' No she hummed for it to come, so Linn could 'come out and play'. Sometimes Kit would 'run away' from school to meet Linn in the rain. Linn didn't seem overly pleased, but she never yelled or hit her. So that was a welcome relief. If not running to Linn, Kit did sometimes hope the fence at the school and go off in search of food, the hot dong vendors were her usual victims. Kit didn't know that Linn paid for her meals when she caught Kit stealing. The young girl was gone and out of sight to quickly to care who or what was near by. But if she 'd known Linn was paying for her growling stomach. She would have tried to find a way to pay her back. Some how. Linn was her family, the only family Kit ever wanted. If ever anyone else was brought into the picture, so long as Linn trusted them fully then Kit would give them a chance. But otherwise seh was fine with just her and Linn for now. Because it meant she got to have a 'normal' life around her again. There were birthdays and holidays to be had. Laughs to share and hugs to give. Kit didn't know what Linn's parents were like, she'd never met them. But it was highly unlikely that she would care for them much at all with how they treated 'her' friend.

Kit beamed from ear to ear as she hugged Linn. A light purr escaping her as she rubbed her head gently against Linn's arm like a kitten might nuzzle it's mother. Kit's distrust wasn't just of men or women. She as a general rule distrusted everyone. Very few could break down her walls. To date only Linn and Selina had ever managed to. "I heard somewhere, that you only get one birthday in your life, the rest are just ani..anniversaries.." She told her struggling at bit on the bigger words. Kit purred louder as Linn nuzzled her hair. She giggled lightly then as she was swung around and pulled close. "I like it Linn, really. I don't know what you brought yet, but I love all of it!." She told her smiling. Kit snuggled in closer and curled happily into Linn. She watched quietly for the moment, smiling at the brightly colored animal plates. "That one's like your bag." She pointed out looking at the panda plate. Kit smiled when Linn laughed. She knew she wasn't 'really' in trouble. "May I eat cake first an have the other for desert?" She asked politely with a hopeful look on her face. Glancing to the tail on the cake Kit nodded, snuggling deeper into Linn's side.

"The old lady might notice 'real' food in there though.." Kit protested. Besides that, she didn't want to share with the woman she stayed with. Kit moved her head into Linn's touch as the teen brushed a hand through her hair. She purred again, as they settled onto the floor. Kit curling herself happily into Linn's lap. She held one of Linn's arms in hers, keeping it wrapped around her. Kit nodded lightly and yawned deeply her tongue flicking between her teeth in a very cat-like manor. She would protest if asked if she was tired. She was content in her friend's arms. That was her story and she would stick to it. She was honestly tired, though she hadn't slept well lately because of her nite terrors. It hadn't helped that the sun had been out to much for Linn come to the school. Kit missed her friend greatly when she wasn't there. She was quieter and more distant alone than she was with Linn. Snuggling deeply close into Linn's side, Kit purred happily."That sounds fun. Can we go to Starbucks too?" She asked, she loved the smell of the place, even without drinking any of the coffee she like sitting in there with Linn. Kit loved that Linn kept close to her. That she was willing. Kit would have hated to feel like Linn only held her, or her hand because she wanted to be close. Kit hated shopping baskets too, they were cold, squeaky and to tight, the seat belts were horrible. The old lady put her in them when she took her shopping and she always put the belt around her way to tight. It made Kit fussy which in turn made the old woman mad. Kit would rather walk, she had two feet, than ride in a metal cart. Shopping with Linn was more fun too, they talked and laughed. That didn't happen with the old Lady.

If there was anything one would have to understand about Linda Friitawa at fifteen the world was still very much a magical place for her if not deadly. She knew that she couldn't do somethings that other people took for granted, but the one thing she would never take for granted was the truthfulness of children. There was a truth in every lie and a lie in every truth, she thought Stepehen King had actually said that but either way, what actually mattered was that she confided in her to begin with. Linn didn't share that with Kit because having only happened recently to her it was rather horrific and Linn didn't want to cause her girl any undue stress as it was. She rather have cheerful topics. the fact that she had gone through several painful surgeries and had suffered blindness was not topics for a five year old. Linn knew she would have bit, them she'd probly stop a foot too and growl at them, like an adoreable little kitty child. Linn knew that the old woman, one Erica Calhoun formerly of New York. Linda had to wonder if the woman thought Kit was just a cat, and not an actual little girl. It was truely hard to say.

Linda had always told her when she was sniffly about her slipping back out the window to leave, that she wished she was going with her. She promised she couldn't take her home with her now, but she promised soon, soon she'd take the little girl home with her. She loved her, it was simple as that. So she would be back for her when she properly could. When her parents were on holiday elsewhere, Linn brought her to her parents home. She tried her best to keep her girl happy. She glanced to where she sat on the floor. Like Linn her little girl was nocturnal and prefered to be up and about on the hours the moon was at there fullest. Linda, sometimes though it was rare would take her to the Rooftops of the Narrows and through the city, before returning her home. She thought she needed to get out more. She knew all about the little girl's hotdog stealing in fact she knew that the girl wasn't as silly as she pretended to be. She could put her kitty like speed to use, and snitch hot dogs fast. Most of the old carnnies who ran the booths, would let her steal, because she was a tossled little girl, with large blue eyes, and looked underfeed at the best of times.

She knew that Kit was happiest when she was there and visiting, Linn was still able to play childish games without rolling her eyes or the adult boredom that followed. When they played make believe is wasn't just make believe for Linn, it became real for the time they were playing it. So if they were pirates, Linn was for that hour or so a pirate. If they were playing dress up, she was a lady, if it was tea, she conducted the tea party with politeness, and by the book. Kit didn't want Linn to fall for a boy for fear that she'd forget her, and leave. Linn would never leave her, but Linn didn't stiffle her either, she gave freedom willingly because she'd expected that in return. Linn was older of them but she was also someone her girl was idolizing so she had to be careful of the example she set. She had lost alot of childhood when she was burned up. They say childhood ends the minute that you realize you are not immortal, and for her that had happened in school. The little albino only wanted to see to it no one else suffered the way she did. It was why she was studying medicine, because she was sure she could make a difference, and genetics meant she could fix imperfection in the very essences of people.

It would be years before Kit would ever meet anyone that Linn would bring home, any man let alone a woman. Though Selina counted too. Though Kit likely would meet Jack too, who was like a big brother to Linn, she called him that, her big brother. She didn't think he was older than her, but he was meaner, which was saying a whole lot. For years it would be just her and Kit. Linn had never introduced the little girl to her parents because she felt her parents didn't deserve the little girls friendship. They were cold and they were supportive, but they were not kind and loving, which was all Linn had ever wanted from them. They had never even visited her when she'd been through the agonizing surgeries that left her in tears, because they had to patch her up, with dura-skin a substanced used on burn patient as an alternative to a skin graft. There was not enough skin on the little girls body anywhere to graft as much of her that was burned. The plastic surgeries that followed hand made sure her skin was smooth and flawless. Her eyes not so much, she'd been badly burned, and her eyes had been damaged to the point she needed glasses. Her optics doctor had warned her there was a chance her eyes would just get worse and worse. She had known that anyways.

"Yes, thats a truth in a way, but we celebrate the day itself as you day of birth." she said "Its more of a tribute to the fact, that hey I came in the world on this day, this many moons ago and I am not going anyware else so rawr." she giggled when Kit nuzzled her, and she swung her around. She didn't know what was brought but she was always happy to eat anything Linda fixed, Linn had always been very good at cooking, for what ever reason the gods had seen fit to grace her with the gift of meal preperation, it was something she shared selflessly as much as she gave her friendship in the same manner. If a person would have meet Linda Friitawa at that point in her life, they'd have never thought she was a villain in training. She was just too nice, it would be a number of things down the path of life that would shove her in that direction, not the least of it being meeting one Jonathan Crane, who was as much a part of her future as Kit was. A young man Linn would see numerous times in the library and think was cute, because of his unortxidox appearance. "Well yes you know as well as I do that I brought you some of your favorites." she said as she laughed at the little girl wanting cake first, it was after all the thing to be had at birthdays. In her future family, cake would become a daily staple for them. "Yes, you can have cake first." she said.

"I will check my funds and get back to you on Starbucks." she said as she ruffled Kit's hair affectionately again as she practically settled into her lap. Linn blinked sleepily herself. But handed Kit the cake knife. "Cut carefully, and don't nick yourself dear." she warned softly. Linn was use to being dangled on by her girl, and she nodded to the cake. "I'll take a piece too." she tolf her as she made a face about not putting the left overs in the fridge. "Well, were going to have to find somewhere to hide it than, the food and the cake, so you have it all to yourself if you don't want to share." she said as she tapped a long finger to her lips. "How about if we look around for a mini fridge we can keep up on the roof top, under the slate part, so you can sneak up there to get your food. No one will know, and we can ask Poppy for the fridge." she said. It was rare Linn asked Poppy for stuff, but in this case it might be needed, since the old woman couldn't be trusted.

Already at her young age, to Kit the world was tainted. She had been stripped away from her mother and treated cruely by the person who was suppose to watch out for her. Until Linn came along Kit had seen all adults, and people older than her, as harsh mean and uncareing at times. Trust had never come easily for her, because at best she was truly feral. If weren't for Linn she'd have bitten everyone that ever came near to her. Linn was the light in Kit's life. She loved everything about how. She knew that Linn kept the topics lighter and more 'apporpriate' for her. Kit didn't mind. Many of the 'darker' topics she wouldn't have really understood. What she had been told about Linn's past and of the hell she was put through by heartless people had made the five year old cry and become growly. If not overly protective. She was small but she packed a painful bite. Growling would be the the 'nicest' thing Kit could do to those who hurt Linn. Mrs. Calhoun, as Kit should have called the old hag. But such wasn't the case she didn't like the woman. Kit was treated like a pet or as a cat by her. There were mice and rats in the apartment. Kit had caught them on occasion. Once, before Linn, she had been hungry enough she tried to eat It wasn't all that bad really it until it bit her. So now Kit just caught them for ammusement. Other food sources, was eating from dumpsters. Which Kit had done on occasion. Not something she would willingly fluant to the world of her attempted rat eating or dumpster diving. But if it kept her fed was it really so bad?

There were only two times that Kit was prone to cry or be fussy. When she's felling really sick or when it's time for Linn to leave. Which often led to her clinging to her crying for her not to go. Or to her asking Linn to stay until she fell asleep. She knew Linn would come back, she trusted the promise that she would but still being alone. Kit hated being alone, even with the 'scatterbrained' woman around Kit might as well have been. The young girl really didn't care where she was only where she wasn't. Being it with this old hag lady or without Linn. She hated both, wanting Linn more than anything. But she understood too. So the times when Linn's parents were away Kit was thirlled about. It didn't take much to make Kit happy really, Linn was happiness enough for her. looking around the room it wasn't much. Kit figured she was lucky to have the closet, though there wasn't much of anything in it. Her bed, was really just a mattress on the floor. She had a blanket warm enough and thick enough for her to curl up into. Nite time was a wonderful time not just Linn's presence but it was cooler and less bright. The sun hurt her eyes, nothing like Linn's but did all the same. She was truly nocturnal though, or would be if weren't for school. She liked being able to come home and sleep a few hours, if her nite-terrors weren't bad, before Linn came at nite. Kit wished she could danced across the roof tops everynite. It was fun, the wind in her hair, the rush of not really knowing where she was an yet not caring. With Linn at her siede she could go anywhere. Kit was slowly become aware that Linn knew about her habbits. Linn didn't seem to mind so much and it kept the young girl fed when Linn couldn't come, so it couldn't be that bad. It was true. She had the kitty-like speed on her side. But she had too another advantage. Being small and appearing quiet under fed, an the aide of her big blue eyes. Kit had a system, she knew which vendors could be won over by 'the look' an which it was best to snatch and run with.

It was the only time Kit was happy. She cried when Linn wasn't there. Just as Linn was good with the make believe so too was Kit. The young girl had a very active imagination. They pretended to be everything. From pirates to tigers to proper ladies, with everything elses inbetween. The tea parties were likely Kit's favorite though, just under being a tiger of course. Tea parties meant food. Kit was very much ruled by her stomach she seemed always to be hungry. It was a very 'well to do' affaire. Rutilus always sat near them too, with a little black top hat balanced atop his head. It wasn't that Kit didn't want Linn falling for anyone or having friends, it was more fear that she would be forgotten. At five she wanted Linn to herself, but knew it couldn't be. So if only unwillingly, should Linn ever find someone else to spend her time with Kit would have to learn to share. But for now. Kit didn't think she was still innocent, she'd lost her birth parents at a young age and ended up here. She hadn't faced death like Linn had but knew too even at five that life wasn't a bed of roses, being more like a bed thorns.

The young girl's hope was but two things, that she would like the person Linn introduced her too, and that she wouldn't be forgotten. Other than that, if Linn was happy so to was Kit. From what Linn had told her of her parents, Kit wasn't overly interested in ever meeting them. Kit longed to be at Linn's side, what little she was told of Linn's past had made her cry. She'd clung tighter to Linn that nite refusing to ever let her go.

"An unbirthdays too right? Like from 'Alice and Wonderland'." She asked with a smile which turned to a laugh at the last little bit 'rawr'. "You're funny Linn." Kit said with a purr as she was swung around. Her arms instantly went around Linn's neck hugging her. It was very true, Kit would eat anything. Such had been proven. But Linn's food was always best. She was glad Linn shared with her. Everything Linn had ever fixed, that Kit had eaten was excellent. Kit had no fear of Linn, there was nothing that marked her a villain. Even if it were as obvious as the Joker with his painted face Kit wouldn't have cared. She loved Linn for who she was on the inside. The outside appearance would never matter to her. Kit now, didn't know Jonathan Crane Linn hadn't told her about him yet. But when she did, fate would have it's way and he would be as much apart of her life and future as Linn was now. Licking her lips, as her stomach growled. "It smells great. I'm starving." She said sheepishly. At the laugh, Kit smiled broadly snuggling deeper into Linn. "Yea cake!" She squealed with child like delight.

"I have money I took it from the old lady." She said, with squirming a little as Linn ruffled her hair then curled contently and settled into her lap. Kit took the knife carefully. Though did run her finger along the duller edge of the knife, the shine to it seemed to fasionate her for the moment and the cake was almost forgotten until Linn spoke. Nodding lightly she stopped playing with the knife and reached out the hand she held the knife and cut off a paw piece, while the other arm stayed wrapped around Linn. With one hand she managed to cut the cake and get the piece into the panda plate. Shifting she took it in her other hand holding the cake to Linn as her other, she reached out snatching the tail off the back sticking the end promptly into her mouth sucking at the sweet orange an white iceing. Takeing the tail from her mouth she asked,"She doesn't share with me, why should I have to with her?" Then stuck the tail back in. Shifting again she snuggled down in such away that Linn could eat her cake without trying to move around her. At the mention of Linn's grandpa Kit smiled, taking the tail once again from her mouth. "Ooo could we please? Do think he would, an when's Grampy come back?" She asked quickly, looking to Linn for the answer as she sat there with orange iceing around her mouth an on her lips.
